MultiVersus Shaggy guide – Who is Shaggy?

Shaggy Rogers is one of the protagonists in the Scooby-Doo series.

He first appeared in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, which started back in 1969, and has continued to star in a range of cartoons and movies ever since.

Shaggy is the best friend of Scooby-Doo, and together with their friends Fred, Daphne and Velma (and sometimes Scrappy) the gang drive around in their big van, The Mystery Machine, solving crimes.

Shaggy is usually portrayed as a cowardly character, and has been voiced by a number of actors over the years. In recent times Matthew Lillard has been most closely associated with the role, and it’s Lillard who plays Shaggy in MultiVersus.

MultiVersus Shaggy guide – Fighting strategies

Shaggy is a ‘bruiser’ character, which means he specialises in close-range damage.

There’s a bit of comical irony here, because Shaggy is usually such a timid character, but in MultiVersus he’s a walking ball of rage.

In fact, rage is the main gimmick Shaggy uses that makes him different from the other characters, because by charging his Neutral Special players can build his rage meter.

When Shaggy’s rage fills to the maximum, a large flame engulfs him and his special attacks hit harder and move farther.

If an ally is nearby when Shaggy triggers his rage, they’ll also get a small rage buff, which gives them similar abilities on a lesser scale.

A good Shaggy player, then, is one who can find time to charge rage from a distance, before heading in close to execute his more powerful special moves.

Also, if you decide you want to fight as a shirtless Shaggy for some reason, his default Up taunt makes him rip his shirt off.

MultiVersus Shaggy guide – Moves

Zoinks

(Neutral, ground or air)

Holding the special button makes Shaggy start charging his rage. If you let go at any point it won’t really do anything – his rage is useless until it’s fully charged.

Once it charges, Shaggy will go all Dragon Ball and a huge flame will surround him, giving him a large rage buff and giving any nearby allies a small rage buff.

Shaggy will also drop a Scooby Snack when his rage fills up. This can be collected for a small health boost.

Rage can also be charged in the air, though obviously this is less practical.

Snacking Instinct Kick

(Side, ground or air)

Shaggy’s Side Special is a pretty straightforward flying kick.

It’s actually very similar to the Falcon Kick move used by Captain Falcon in the F-Zero games.

It has a decent range and launches the opponent a reasonable distance, but it’s nothing too outrageous.

It can also be performed in mid-air, where it can be a little more effective if it connects since your opponent is closer to the upper edge of the screen and more likely to be KO’ed.

Power Uppercut

(Up, ground or air)

Shaggy’s Down Special is a rising Dragon Punch straight out of the Street Fighter II school of combat.

It acts exactly like Ryu’s Dragon Punch, travelling straight upwards and plucking enemies out of the air.

If rage has been activated, the Power Uppercut will hit multiple times, meaning you can do extra damage if it hits early enough.

The Power Uppercut can also be performed in the air, giving you extra height if you need it, but the rage version only hits once if you do this.

Like, Feed the Hunger

(Down, ground)

It wouldn’t be Shaggy without some sort of food-based move, and his Down Special absolutely ticks that box.

Pressing the input makes Shaggy pull out a sandwich, and pressing it again makes him throw it. The sandwich does two different things depending on who it hits.

If it hits an ally, it’ll pass through them, healing them as it does. If it hits an opponent, it’ll damage them.

If Shaggy takes out the sandwich and then activates rage, the sandwich will grow and become more powerful.

If you activate rage fist and then perform the Down Special, though, he won’t pull out a sandwich and will instead perform a ground slam attack.

Like, C’mere Man

(Down, air)

If you use the Down Special in mid-air, Shaggy will essentially perform a ground slam attack.

This launches him towards the ground and does damage to any nearby enemies when it lands.

If rage has been activated, when you hit the ground it’ll create a shockwave projectile that travels forwards a little and can hit multiple times.

If you’re already holding a sandwich while you’re in the air, Shaggy won’t perform the ground slam, he’ll throw the sandwich instead.
