The real Tsushima island will start selling Ghost of Tsushima merch to tourists

The real island of Tsushima will soon begin selling official merchandise based on the game.

As spotted by Automaton Media, official Ghost of Tsushima items will be sold inside the tourist information and souvenir shop Fureai-do Tsushima, which is located on the islands.

T-shirts, hoodies, socks and more will be included as part of the official merchandise line, which will go on sale from April 29.

The merchandise will be created by MSY, whose director Masaya Akiyama said (translated by VGC): “The Ghost of Tsushima collection incorporates the high quality and fun of the game and the excellence of its creation into graphic design with a sense of respect.

“We hope that the permanent exhibition of the collection at Fureai-do Tsushima will serve as a bridge between the game and Tsushima tourism, with visitors to Tsushima becoming interested in the world of Ghost of Tsushima and the game, and fans of the game considering a visit to Tsushima as a result.”

In a statement on its official website, the Tsushima Local Promotion Association says it hopes the exclusive merchandise will spark new interest in tourism in Tsushima, because the COVID-19 pandemic severely hampered any real tourism that was expected as a result of the game’s success.

“Tsushima City has been running the official collaboration site Ghost of REAL Tsushima since March 2021 and has been sending out information to fans of Ghost of Tsushima, but due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection, the city is not attracting as many tourists as expected,” it said.

“We hope that fans of the work will take this opportunity to visit Tsushima, dress up in the merchandise and enjoy themselves not only in the game work but also in the actual Tsushima, the setting of the work, its body and soul.”

This is the latest collaboration between the island and the PlayStation exclusive.

Last year, Sucker Punch Game director Nate Fox and creative director Jason Connell were made permanent tourism ambassadors of the city of Tsushima.

In January 2021, the popularity of the game also led to fans helping raise more than $260,000 to rebuild a shrine on the real island.
