Here’s the first look at The Last of Us TV series set pics
A fan shared photos and videos of the Alberta street being turned into Austin, Texas
New photos from the set of The Last of Us TV series show that filming is very much underway.
Twitter user @necromonica1 travelled to a street in Alberta, Canada which has currently been redesigned to look like the streets of Austin, Texas.
While there, she was able to take photos and videos of some of the buildings and cars from the set.
Although it isn’t clear what scene this set is taken from, the relatively clean condition of the street (compared to the majority of the game’s post-apocalyptic look) could suggest it’s from the game’s prologue, where Joel and his daughter Sarah try to make their way through Austin in the midst of a viral outbreak.
Cast member Gabriel Luna, who is playing Tommy, posted an Instagram photo two weeks ago showing himself, Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) and Sarah (Nico Parker) in a car, which led to suggestions that they were preparing to film the opening scenes from the show.
However, sources then informed Entertainment Weekly that although the cast had arrived in Alberta to begin preparing, filming had not yet started at that point.
While many movies and TV shows are shot in Canada for financial reasons, The Last of Us is said to be one of the most high-budget productions currently being filmed there.
International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees union president Damian Petti told CTV News that “it is likely the largest project shooting in Canada”, adding that each episode’s budget “well exceeds the eight figure per episode mark”.
The Last of Us adaptation is the first television series from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and TV.
Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin is co-writing and executive producing the show alongside Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann. The production is due to wrap in June 2022.
The series is expected to cover the events of The Last of Us, which was released in 2013, and may include content based on The Last of Us Part 2, which launched in 2020.
In February, Game of Thrones actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were cast as the show’s lead characters, Joel and Ellie. Nico Parker (Dumbo), the daughter of actress Thandie Newton, is playing Joel’s daughter, Sarah.
