Elden Ring is already the best-selling game of 2022 in the US
And the fifth best-selling title of the 12-month period ending in February
Elden Ring has made a blockbuster start at US retail, according to market research firm NPD Group.
From Software’s game, which was only released on February 25, debuted as both the best-selling title of the month as well as 2022 year to date, ranked on dollar sales.
Based on its launch month sales, Elden Ring is also already the fifth best-selling title of the 12-month period ending February 2022, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said on Friday.
Elden Ring - the VGC review
The game’s launch month sales were only bettered by those of one other game released in the last year, November 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Elden Ring appears set to be From Software’s most successful game to date. Its UK release was the biggest launch for a game other than FIFA or Call of Duty since Rockstar‘s Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.
And it’s Steam‘s sixth biggest game ever in terms of concurrent players, with a peak of over 950,000 – more than seven times that of Dark Souls III.
While Elden Ring was February’s top-selling game on Steam and Xbox platforms in the US, it placed second to Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation consoles.
Dollar sales of the PS5 version of Sony‘s game set a new launch month record for the console.
Horizon Forbidden West, which released one week earlier than Elden Ring, was the second best-selling game in the US overall last month.
January’s top-selling game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, charted third, ahead of new releases Dying Light 2 and Total War: Warhammer III.
On the hardware front, Switch was the best-selling console of February 2022 in both units and dollars, with Xbox Series X/S placing second on both accounts.
Following a strong January showing, PS5 tops video game hardware dollar sales year-to-date, with Switch the highest unit seller so far in 2022.
