A Marvel MMO is in development at DC Universe Online’s developer
The MMO was revealed via an investor presentation
An MMO based on the Marvel universe is in development at DC Universe Online developer Dimensional Ink Studios according to an investor presentation.
The presentation was published by parent company Enad Global 7, and noticed by Streamer @mmmmmmmmiller.
This news follows concept art that was leaked in 2019 that seemed to show off character designs for Daybreak’s earlier attempt at a Marvel MMO.
A slide in the presentation notes that the “Unannounced MMORPG” is set to be a “Marvel IP based massively multiplayer online game” and that it is led by Jack Emmert, who was formally the lead on City of Heroes, and currently heads up the DC Universe Online team.
This is the latest in Marvel’s increasing move into the video game market.
Following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 5, Marvel Games has produced Marvel’s The Avengers with Crystal Dynamics, and earlier in 2021, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
A sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently in development at Insomniac, as is Marvel’s Wolverine.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns, another new title in development at XCOM developer Firaxis Games was recently delayed from March 2022 into the second half of the year.
In a statement published on social media, creative director Jake Solomon stated that the development team needed more time to improve the quality of the game.
“We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly,” he said.
“We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to do justice in delivering an unforgettable adventure”.
